What Can I Do To Make My Air Conditioner More Efficient?

If you’re like most people, it’s probably difficult to imagine braving hot or humid weather without your air conditioner. However, many people tend to take their air conditioners for granted, especially if they live someplace where heat and humidity are facts of life all year round. They forget just how big a part of their home comfort their unit really is until it breaks down or starts to malfunction. If this has ever happened to you, then you know what a pain it can be!

The good news is there are things you can do to make sure your air conditioning unit remains in tip-top condition and continues to function as smoothly as possible into the future. Let’s take a look at some of the most effective. Changing Your Air Filter

Proper maintenance of your air conditioning unit’s air filter is actually the number one most important thing a homeowner can do to maintain proper efficiency levels. Dirty, clogged, or blocked air filters are actually the number one culprit when it comes to units that break down, malfunction, or just don’t seem to be getting the job done as efficiently as they should be. In fact, it’s estimated that up to 90% of issues technicians are called in to fix could have been corrected or prevented by changing the air filter more often!Making sure to replace your unit’s air conditioner 2-4 times per year comes attached to many benefits. Not only will your unit cool and dehumidify the air more efficiently, but it will help to keep dust, dirt, and allergens in the air to a minimum. It will also ensure that your unit’s motor lasts up to twice as long as it would if you let this part of your maintenance routine fall by the wayside. You should also take care to keep both indoor and outdoor vents free from blockage.

Have an Expert Inspect Your Unit Regularly

Aside from making sure you keep your unit as clean as possible, it’s important to have your air conditioner and furnace units looked at by a maintenance technician once in a while as well. This is doubly the case if you feel it isn’t running as well as it could be. A technician can help to evaluate wiring, thermostat function, energy usage and more. Have one over to service your unit once a year.
