What Warmer Fall Weather Means For Your HVAC System

With a drop in humidity and oppressive temperatures, the fall season is one of the most beautiful times of the year in the Jacksonville area. Like many people, you and your family are likely to enjoy spending time outdoors in the nicer weather. Your home’s HVAC system is probably also enjoying a bit of a break from working continuously to keep your home comfortable.

But as we go through fall, the nights will be cooler, and you will need to start using your heater for those chilly mornings. Now is the time to start thinking about the cooler weather ahead and make sure your HVAC system is ready for it.

Scheduling a Fall Tune-Up

The best way to make sure that your heat will be ready when you need it is to have your heater inspected each fall. Whether you use an air pump to both heat and cool your home, or if you have a standalone heater, an annual service is important. It’s always a good idea to schedule your fall tune-up early in the season. This helps avoid the winter rush that could occur when other people are just turning on their heat and finding out that they have a problem with their unit.

During your fall maintenance appointment, the service technician will thoroughly inspect your air pump or heater to identify any potential issues. Catching mechanical problems at an early stage can often make the difference between a minor repair or one that results in a complete failure of your system. Minor adjustments can be accomplished during a fall tune-up.

Another good reason to never forgo your HVAC’s fall tune-up is the health and safety of you and your family. Electrical connections and wiring are checked for loose connections or fraying that could spark a fire. Your heater will be checked for damage to burners and fuel lines.

Don’t Forget About Your Filters

It’s important to check your HVAC’s air filters every month whether you are using your heat or air conditioning. A dirty filter can cause the indoor air quality of your home to decline as more contaminants can get into your HVAC system and recirculate throughout your home. This could cause you and your family to experience more allergy symptoms or respiratory issues.

Changing your filters regularly also helps save you money in the long run. Filters that are clogged up with dust, pet dander and other debris decrease the amount of airflow that goes into your HVAC system. This causes your system to work harder, which means more wear and tear coupled with a decreased lifespan.

By following these important steps, you’ll be on your way to a hassle-free heating season. But if an unexpected repair or heating emergency does come up, Snyder Heating & Air Conditioning is ready to take your call 24/7 at [hls_phone_number].
