Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your Home Heating Unit

Are your bills getting out of control since the temperatures outside dropped? Does your house start squeaking and creaking when the heat kicks on?

While it may seem like a money-saver to just make quick fixes to your old unit rather than investing in a new one, it may be costing you more than you think!

Check out these signs it might be time to upgrade your heating unit.

  • Your heating unit has started its own percussion section. Has your heating unit started squeaking? Does it make worrisome rumbles, upsetting booms, or annoying clanks? Strange noises coming from your furnace are a good sign that you should start shopping for a replacement.
  • Your home is too cold. And too hot. And too cold. Have you noticed rooms that are much warmer than others? Is one bedroom perpetually cold while the rest seem fine? This can be a sign that you’re having issues with your air ducts. Heating systems are designed to evenly distribute warm air throughout your home. Uneven temperatures can be a sign that it is time for an upgrade. Have your Snyder tech do a thorough inspection of your ducts first to see if they simply need to be cleaned or sealed.
  • Your thermostat remembers when bell-bottom jeans were in style – the first time. Thermostats have come a long way since their original inception. Programmable thermostats can help you not only keep your home comfortable, but can also save you energy as well. If your thermostat has not been upgraded in a while, a new one may be a great investment.
  • Humidity is getting you down. If your home has humidity problems, or problems with air that is far too dry, your furnace or ducts might be the culprit. Malfunctioning equipment can leave air too humid in the summer and far too dry in the winter, which can irritate sinuses. However, a new heating system can help reduce dry air, leaving you to breathe easier. Fun fact: It can also assist with the preservation of porous materials like woodwork, furniture, or musical instruments.
  • Your heating system has more than ten years of service under its belt. According to Energy Star, heating systems that are over ten years old operate at around 55 to 70 percent efficiency, whereas new systems can achieve up to 99 percent efficiency. Your furnace may still work well enough, but investing in a new system would bring you big savings in the long run.
